Here at the North Dakota State Fair, we have tons of events going on all week long including concerts, free stages, and of course the carnival. However, there are also quite a few events that our Fairgoers might not know about, so we thought it would be great to let you in on a few of these little not-so-secret, secrets.
4-H FILM FESTIVAL
Each year, 4-H members from across North Dakota are invited to submit a short film for the ND 4-H Film Festival! Films are judged and the public is encouraged to come check out each of the films during the North Dakota State Fair! Not only do you get entertainment and popcorn, but anyone who attends is welcome to vote for their favorite film for the PEOPLE’S CHOICE AWARD! Don’t miss out on checking out these talented young filmmakers TODAY, Sunday, July 24th at 2:00 PM in the Norsk Room!
ARM WRESTLING
Want to find out who has the strongest arm in North Dakota? Think that could be you? If you want to participate in the Arm Wrestling competition, weigh-ins take place at 10:30am on the day of the event, Saturday, July 30th. If you don’t want to compete and are insterested in stopping by to check things out and maybe cheer on your favorite competitor, the event itself will begin at 1:00pm on the Dakota Talent Stage.
FOOD FRENZY
Sample the latest and greatest foods the Fair has to offer! The Food Frenzy competition features various food booths across the Fairgrounds, all competing for the title of “Best New Fair Food.” Judging is already over for the event, with M&S Concessions coming in 1st with their Hot Beef Parfait, Thomsens Root Beer taking second with their Maple Bacon Funnel Cake, and Little Blue Elephant getting third with their Monkey Ball! You can decide the winner for yourself by looking for the colored signs denoting the FOOD FRENZY COMPETITION at the competing booths!
ROLLER DERBY DEMONSTRATION
This year’s North Dakota State Fair is having its first Roller Derby Demonstration presented by the NODAK KNOCKOUTS! They’re going to be near Commercial II on Thursday, July 28th to show you their moves! They’ll be teaching their audience about roller derby, their events, and will be demonstrating what they love to do! Their shows take place at 12:30pm, 2:30pm, and 5:15pm so don’t miss out on this exciting event!
FOOD EATING CONTEST
Come check out this year’s Food Eating Contest at the Fair! Our event for 2016 features a new food that is sure to make for a pretty sweet contest: sandwich cookies! There are three divisions that you can check out: Celebrity, Junior (ages 10-17), and Adult (ages 18+). Each contestant is given a pack of cookies, a shot of milk, and only 5 minutes to eat their way to victory! If you want to participate, registration begins at 5:00PM on the day of the event, Friday, July 29th. You can also pre-register for this competition, as only 12 people will be in each division! If you’re not interested in participating, just stop by for a little bit of fun!
