What does it take to get your food from the field to your dinner table? Learn all about the agricultural process while playing awesome games with My American Farm! The North Dakota State Fair is teaming up with the folks at myamericanfarm.com to bring you this online interactive learning experience. Children who complete the games are even eligible for a ribbon during the North Dakota State Fair.
The site is completely free and can be accessed from any computer with internet access. 16 agriculturally based games are available on the site with roots in math, science, social studies and language arts. Once kids complete a game, they earn a stamp which can be printed out and glued in their passports. Kids can bring their completed passport to the Kids Clubhouse during the Fair to receive a ribbon. “The North Dakota State Fair is all about agriculture and My American Farm is a great tool to promote our number one industry to our non-agriculture going Fairgoers,” said Erin Beck, North Dakota State Fair Assistant Marketing Director. “The website explores all different aspects of agriculture and how they relate to and effect the entire population.”
Also included on the site are ideas for activities the whole family can do together. Some of these activities include step-by-step instructions on how to build a rain gauge and car trip bingo, which encourages kids to look for agricultural structures and animals during those long car rides. The site also has plenty of educator and parent resources to go along with the games. “One of the main things we tried to do was not only provide these games, but also provide resources and ways to search the site so educators can find information easily by subject matter and agricultural themes and topics,” said Dan Durheim, Executive Director of the foundation. “We also have fun family activities for when kids come home from school and they have that time on the computer.”
