New Events at the 2011 Fair


Carving isn’t only for Pumpkins! If you have a knack for carving pumpkins, join us at the State Fair and take it to the next level. At 1 pm, on Saturday, July 23, we will be hosting a live Fruit and Vegetable Carving Contest in 4-H Hall.  Bring your favorite fruit or vegetable, your own set of knives and be prepared to begin creating your masterpiece in the spotlight. You might be a redneck if…? We all have a little bit of redneck in us. Come show yours off at the Redneck Relay Race sponsored by North Country Mercantile. The event will be held on Stage 7 at 3:30 pm on Sunday, July 24. Events will include a “greased pig” contest, water bucket relay race, and much more! For more information call 701-857-7620.

The Fast and Furious Vegetables! Do you happen to have some fruits and vegetables in your fridge with a need for speed? Enter them in the North Dakota State Fair Veggie Derby held at 1:00 pm on Thursday, July 28 on Dakota Talent Stage. Put together your veggie car ahead of time by only using vegetables and wooden skewers. You must have at least 1 vegetable used as a body and at least two used as wheels. How well do you know your spouse? The North Dakota State Fair Center Senior Day is featuring the “Not So Newlywed” Contest on Thursday, July 28 at 10:00 am in the North Dakota State Fair Center Upper Atrium. Couples who have been married for 35 years or more and currently reside in North Dakota are invited to submit a story describing why you and your spouse deserve a seat at the “Not-so-Newlywed Game”. Possible story ideas include a favorite or fond recollection of a special day at the North Dakota State Fair, how you met, or perhaps your secret of success or longevity. Four couples will be chosen to participate in a game similar to the popular TV show “The Newlywed Game”.  For more information contact Jennifer at 857-7620 or jennifer@ndstatefair.com.

Have a minute? Take part in our Win it in a Minute Game on Saturday, July 30 at 4 pm on Stage 2. Contestants will take part in events such as the Candelier, Face the Cookie, How’s it Hangin’, and a Bit Dicey which you may find familiar from the popular NBC Show, “Minute to Win It”.  All you need to bring is a little coordination!  If you are interested in participating call 701-857-7620 or visit ndstatefair.com.

Walk the red carpet! 4-H members from across North Dakota have been invited to submit a short film for the first annual 4-H Film Festival which will take place at 2 p.m. on Sunday, July 24, 2011 in the Norsk room at the North Dakota State Fair. Films will be judged and the public is invited to view the top three films in each category and select the People’s Choice Award from these films in the Norsk Room of the State Fair Center. Follow the hoof prints! Find the answers! Win Prizes ! This year, the North Dakota State Fair is excited to present the ND Ag Experience. To take part:follow farm animal footprints to exhibits throughout the Fairgrounds, learn fun facts about agriculture, take part in the 4-H Ag Experience Geocaching Tour, and fill out a survey in the State Fair Lobby to win $500 in cash and other great prizes! Visit these stops for your chance to win: ND Pork Council at the Expo Barn, Cenex of New Town at the Beef Barn, Midwest Dairy at the Dairy Barn, Northern Plains Potato Growers, ND Soybean Council, and Versatile/Enerbase at the Crop Plot, Northern Pulse Crops at Magic Place, Pahlke Farm & Ranch Equipment next to Stage 4, and Gooseneck Implement at Machinery Row. Pursue a Career in Agriculture! From 12pm-5pm, on Sunday, July 24, explore the Careers and Technology in Agriculture Fair. The festival tent will be full of hands-on displays that will highlight career opportunities and the growth of technology in agriculture.  This in an excellent opportunity for all ages to learn more about the agricultural industry and to make contacts with possible future employers. Booths will include Gooseneck Implement, Magic City Implement, Titan Machinery & many more!

Meet your Neighbor! On Friday, July 29th, the North Dakota State Fair will be featuring State Farm Day at the Fair. The Festival Tent located in the SRT State Fair Park will feature: individual agent tables, the ND Safety Council, the North Dakota Red Cross, State Farm Recruiting, State Farm National Catastrophe Team with the REACT van, the Good Neigh Bear, and Agent Tagged Vehicles.  As a special thanks to our soldier’s, the North Dakota State Fair will be holding a poster signing inside the tent. Fairgoers are encouraged to sign a message that shows their appreciation for those serving overseas.
