One youngster knew how to put his smelly worn-out shoes to use last summer during the North Dakota State Fair Odor Eater’s Rotten Sneaker Contest. Michael Caswell, of Bottineau, ND, took first place in the contest, leaving him with 200 dollars, The Golden Sneaker Award, a basket of Odor-Eaters products and a trip to the 35th Annual National Odor Eater Rotten Sneaker Contest.
Last year was a first for the North Dakota State Fair to host the Odor Eater’s Rotten Sneaker Contest and it proved to be a successfully stinky one. The sneakers were judged on the condition of the shoe, including the sole, tongue, eyelets or grommets, heel, toe, laces or Velcro, overall condition, and odor.
Michael proclaims his sneakers were the worst in the odor category, and his mom believes Michael would have gotten first at the national competition if the contest was based solely on odor. Michael doesn’t know why his sneakers smelled so bad, but being a garbage collector and an average teenager, his sneakers had what it takes to position him in first place at the 2009 North Dakota State Fair.
Do you think your shoes have enough wear and grunge to win the top prize? Registration begins in June for this year’s Odor Eater’s Rotten Sneaker Contest at the 2010 North Dakota State Fair!
